This is the first solo exhibition of young artist Tong Kunniao. The word “Niao” means bird, which can rarely be seen in people’s names. People have kept asking about the story of his name as the artist grew up. He proposed the reverse of his name as the theme of this exhibition, along with his iconic portrait. Tong’s artwork has always been remarked as camp-style; also, he’s always been keen on composing the feeling of pushing the boundary between harmony and abruptness. I set the three characters back and forth in the background, letting people interpret it as either the artist’s name or the exhibition. Also using the fragile and sharp and corner in the negative space  to reflect the tension in his artwork.
