Yunnan cuisine is widely appreciated across China for its distinctive flavors. Unlike many traditional Yunnan restaurants in Shanghai, Huma sought to reinterpret this culinary heritage through a contemporary lens. This concept is reflected in both the dining experience and the interior design.
I was commissioned to create the restaurant's typographic identity with one specific requirement: it should feel neither trendy nor traditional. After extensive research into classical Chinese calligraphy, I chose Official Script (Lishu, 隶书) as my primary inspiration. Its timeless elegance and historical roots echo the enduring character of Yunnan cuisine.
